I went here looking for a specific kind of dog food that's fairly new, and was pleased to find that they carry it. One of my dogs is diabetic, so he has to be fed twice a day so he can get his insulin. It's hard to convince a small dog who's been a "free-feeder" all his life that he now has to eat two meals a day and only those two meals a day. (Particularly when he's not a "morning person", and with the food still being available 24/7 because the other dogs are also grazers/free-feeders.) Him eating a bowl of kibble on command, let alone at 8:30am, was never going to happen. Fortunately, he *loves* Stella and Chewy's freeze-dried chicken. It comes in small nuggets that can be served dry (as is or crumbled dry over other food), or as a paste created by adding hot water (by itself, or mixed with other food). When I learned that Stella and Chewy had made a kibble, I was thrilled. A quality kibble akin to the food he loves? Yes please! I checked several stores - PSP, PetSmart, Petco - no joy. Either they didn't even carry it, or they were all out. Finally stopped in this PSP on New Year's Day - and there it was. One small bag of S&C raw chicken kibble. The associate was friendly, as was everyone we talked to there, and led me straight to it, as well as to the other kibble I needed. (Whole Earth Farms - a great grain-free kibble the dogs love that's very reasonably priced.) It's a big store, but clean and very well organized. I was able to get both types of kibble and three types of fish food, and still be in and out in under ten minutes.

Be very cautious when buying your pet's food from here. We unknowingly purchased a bag of dry cat food that had been cut into (likely with a box cutter). The cut, which was two inches long, was carefully taped over with clear packing tape, and as the bag is smooth and slick, the tape and cut were indiscernible until I searched the bag for an expiration date. And why did I need to find the expiration date? Four days after we fed this bag of food to our cats, one cat became very ill, and the rest became just as ill the following day. They were lethargic, anorexic, and dehydrated, and all vomited and/or had diarrhea. We spent six hours in the emergency animal hospital on Christmas and made two more trips to the animal hospital over the next two days. Our bills totaled nearly $900, but the financial cost doesn't touch the emotional and psychological burden of seeing your beloved animals so sick. All our cats are seniors so I was especially concerned that this illness would be the ultimate end of one or more of them. Fortunately they all made a complete recovery, which took just over a week. After the first cat became ill, we noticed the cats were not touching their dry food, which was unusual considering one cat in particular will eat everything in sight if allowed. Suspecting the bag of food was bad, we returned it to this store. En route to the store I examined the bag for an expiration date, which is when I found the neatly taped cut in the bag. We gave the bag to the store (which was a mistake; we should have shown it to them then kept it) and requested an exchange, and later gave the store manager copies of our vet bills. The store manager, who seemed shocked, said this has "never happened" and that he'd pass everything along to the franchise owner. We didn't hear back from the owner until we contacted the Pet Supplies Plus corporate offices. When the owner eventually called us, she claimed she couldn't cover any part of the vet bills, and that she'd be out of business if she reimbursed every vet bill that came her way. Despite the fact we were polite throughout our communications with the franchise and company, she was snippy and came across as uncaring (she called the food 'dog food', in example), and was adamant we had no proof that the food made our cats sick (hence wishing we kept the bag for outside testing). She also claimed that they always sold cut or torn bags, usually as clearance items. Since the bag of food in question is expensive and wasn’t a clearance item, she said she’d give us a $100 gift card. Throughout this ordeal we saw the issue with the food bag as an awful mistake, and we were willing to work with the store and franchise owner. But the fact the owner treated us like we were a bother and not worthy of her time despite being regular customers that had just gone through a terrible experience thanks to the sloppy food handling practices at her store is deeply troubling. I wish we had kept the bag of food and had it tested so we could have solid proof that it caused our cats to get sick. Nothing else about our household was new—we don’t even decorate for the holidays (partly due to being so busy, and partly due to not wanting the cats to ingest anything weird)—so the cut-and-taped bag of food is the only probable cause for the illness of multiple animals at once. We even called the manufacturer (Fromm Four Star Nutritionals) prior to returning the bag of food to ensure there weren’t any recalls or reported issues. Again, be very cautious when you buy your pet food from this store! If you buy high-quality food that the manufacturer takes care to package carefully for optimum freshness and safety, don’t assume that this store will do the right thing and discard torn or cut bags of food. Be careful and look the bag over very closely. Don’t risk putting yourself through the week of hell that my husband, our cats, and I endured.
